Mid-Implementation and Losing Control? Here's How to Take It Back

A question I hear often: “How do we take back ownership if we're already mid-implementation?”

Good news — it's not too late. Here's where to start:

  1. Freeze scope changes until you've mapped them back to your original business case.

  2. Audit your OKRs — if the team can't articulate them, the program is drifting.

  3. Put a business leader — not IT, not the vendor — in the chair of every key workstream.

  4. Demand a plain-language status report. If it's full of RAG statuses and Gantt charts but light on business outcomes, that's a red flag.

Mid-course correction is harder than starting right. But it's far better than arriving at go-live with a system your organization doesn't own and a business case nobody remembers.

This is exactly the kind of situation I step into. If you're there — let's talk.
